Comms Day Summit Presentation (April 2008)

Brian Beckor delivered a presentation entitled "How Geospatial Tools can deliver on Enterprise expectations of Broadband Providers".  The presentation was made in Sydney on 16th April 2008.

Appointment as PSMA Australia Full Access Value Added Reseller (February 2008)

In February 2008, Callpoint was appointed a PSMA Australia Full Access Value Added Reseller.  This builds on experience gained:

  • Since 2003, when we familiarised ourselves with G-NAF as part of the IPND address accuracy audit project we undertook for ACMA,and recommended G-NAF be used as the address reference dictionary for future audits
  • Commenced sales of G-NAF in late 2004

DCITA sought public submissions to the "Broadband Connect and Clever Networks: Supporting Investment in Sustainable Broadband Infrastructure" issue.

Metropolitan Broadband Blackspot Program Geospatial Consultancy (July 2005)

Callpoint submitted a response to the then Department of Communications Information Technology and the Arts (DCITA) Metropolitan Broadband Blacskpot Progam Geospatial Consultancy tender request in July 2005. Callpoint secured the project, which involved spatial analysis of broadband availability to the some 7 million premises (the project scope being Australia's main 15 Urban Centre & Localities).

ATUG Regional Conference Canberra (May 2005)

ATUG's third annual regional conference was held in Canberra on May 11-12 2005. Brian Beckor was invited by ATUG to present at the conference. His presentation "The Role of Spatial Analysis" was well received and inspired a number of questions.

Telstra Exchange Data (2004)

In late 2004, Telstra Wholesale appointed a reseller for its geospatial exchange datasets.

Coincidentally, the list of datasets is the same as that submitted by Callpoint's director to the 2004 Senate Broadband Inquiry.

NSW Chamber of Commerce - Vital Signs contribution (2004)

The NSW State Chamber of Commerce publishes its "Vital Signs" on an annual basis to keep members and stakeholders informed of key business developments.

With the increasing importance of telecommunications to successful business activitity, the 2003-04 edition includes broadband service information for the five areas profiled in Vital signs.  This data was supplied by Callpoint to the Chamber.

Melbourne University presentation (October 2004)

The growing importance of broadband to Australia's economic and social development is well known.  However, broadband networks do not just appear, they need to be firstly planned and designed, and these disciplines involve high levels of engineering skill.

On 20 October 2004, Brian Beckor was invited to present to final year Melbourne University Electrical Engineering students.

Senate Broadband Inquiry contribution (June 2004)

In June 2004 Callpoint's principal, Brian Beckor, contributed relevant background and the list of Telstra geospatial datasets that would need to be made available to support a pro-competitive infrastructure-based broadband industry.

A number of significant participants - with ATUG being a key driving force - strove to protect Australia's competitive telecommunications industry in the broadband era through these recommendations.

Brian Beckor, Callpoint's principal, delivered a presentation to the Service Provider Industry Association's (SPAN) Regional Broadband Forum.  This was held in Sydney on 25 February 2004 and attracted much industry interest.

Response to Senate Broadband Inquiry (September 2003)

In September 2003, Callpoint was invited by the Australian Telecommunications User Group (Atug) to outline information related issues that are believed to hinder the adoption of broadband services.  Callpoint submitted its response to Atug on 23 September 2003.

On 13 November 2003, during the Senate Broadband Inquiry's session with Atug, Senator Kate Lundy asked Brian Beckor a series of specific follow up questions (by phone). Click below to view transcripts of that session.

Spotlight on Victoria (June 2003)

In June 2003, Multimedia Victoria (www.mmv.vic.gov.au) produced a "Spotlight on Victoria" information package for launch by Minister Marsha Thompson at the trade fair in the USA.

Callpoint was one of 12 Victorian IT companies nominated for inclusion in the information pack, and each company had a two page profile written by MultiMedia Victoria.

Broadband Advisory Group (BAG) Submission (August 2002)

Established in March 2002, the Broadband Advisory Group (BAG) was an expert advisory body on broadband issues.  Its role was to assist the Federal Government to ensure that its broadband policy framework optimises the economic and social benefits that Australia derives from broadband services (extract from BAG's home page, found via www.noie.gov.au).

In mid 2002, the BAG invited public submissions.  Some 69 were subsequently listed on the BAG site, including one from Callpoint.

ATUG Broadband User Group Nomination / Callpoint's Campaign Efforts (April 2002)

In April 2002, Phil Sykes (then CEO Request DSL) nominated Callpoint's principal, Brian Beckor, to the newly formed ATUG Broadband User Group.  It was felt at the time that effort needed to be directed at a wider industry level in order to ensure the more 'ready and complete' availability of Telstra's geospatial datasets.
